Nafisa Shams Academy Concludes the Costumes in Cinematic Production Initiative to Empower Women

The Nafisa Shams Academy for Arts and Crafts, an organization that is supported by the Community Jameel Saudi Foundation, successfully concluded its Costumes in Cinematic Production Initiative in collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla, represented by the Entrepreneurship Empowerment Center, Vibes AlUla. This initiative aimed to assist women in launching their entrepreneurial endeavors by offering a comprehensive training program, commencing in AlUla province in November 2023.
Aligned with the accelerating growth of Saudi Arabia’s cinema and entertainment sectors, this initiative capitalized on the promising prospects within these domains. It played a role in supporting the film and television industry by creating costumes that give life to characters and embody the vision of directors and authors.
Over a six-week period, the initiative targeted women passionate about tailoring and fashion design, selecting 15 participants after a thorough interview process. The training curriculum encompassed professional marketing, entrepreneurship, and the fundamentals of cinematic costume design, totaling 60 hours of training. Participants received certificates accredited by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation upon completion. Additionally, the designers received essential support, tools, and subscriptions to establish their e-commerce stores on local platforms.

Dr. May Taibah, Director of Nafisa Shams Academy and Member of the Board of Trustees at Community Jameel Saudi, said: “We are proud to conclude this unique initiative successfully, which reflects the commitment of Nafisa Shams Academy and its collaboration with Vibes AlUla to empowering Saudi women. This step came as at a time where we are witnessing rapid growth in the Kingdom’s film and entertainment industries. We believe in the ability of female craftswomen to make a positive impact in these exciting and diverse sectors. The participants acquired the necessary training and support to transform their talents into creative and inspiring artworks.”

This program was designed to equip women with the necessary skills for the creative industry, elevating their role in Saudi Arabia’s emerging cinematic sector. It mirrors Community Jameel Saudi’s commitment to empowering women, fostering financial independence, and creating employment and income opportunities; thereby, contributing to sustainable development and cultivating inclusive and prosperous societies. This initiative aligns with Vision 2030, particularly in enabling Saudis to enter labor market through the Human Capability Development Program and localizing the entertainment and cinema sectors in the Kingdom via the Quality of Life Program.
